Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has stirred the political pot ahead of the upcoming Delhi elections by predicting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will project its Kalkaji candidate, Ramesh Bidhuri, as their chief ministerial face. Referring to BJP as the “Gali-Galoch Party” (abusive party), Atishi claimed this decision was made during the BJP’s Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting.

In a post on social media platform X, Atishi wrote, “Reliable sources have revealed that it has been decided in the CEC meeting of the ‘Gaali Galouch Party’ this morning that the most abusive leader – Ramesh Bidhuri ji – will be made the CM face. Now, Delhiites have two options – on one side is the educated, hardworking leader Arvind Kejriwal, and on the other side is the abusive Ramesh Bidhuri.”

Ramesh Bidhuri has been no stranger to controversy, with recent remarks against both Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Atishi herself drawing widespread criticism. During campaigning, Bidhuri accused Atishi of changing her surname from “Marlena” to “Singh” and made inflammatory comments about her character.

Adding to his list of controversies, Bidhuri promised voters in Kalkaji constituency smooth roads “like Priyanka Gandhi’s cheeks,” referencing a controversial statement once made by RJD leader Lalu Yadav. While his remarks triggered a public outcry, Bidhuri later withdrew the statement.

Atishi, who took over as Delhi’s Chief Minister following Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation after his incarceration, is seeking re-election from the Kalkaji constituency. Her main opponents include BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress’s Alka Lamba. Atishi has emphasized her governance credentials, contrasting them with what she describes as the BJP’s lack of leadership clarity.

Voting for the 70-seat Delhi Assembly is scheduled for February 5, with the counting of votes set for February 8. As per the final electoral roll, Delhi has 1,55,24,858 voters, an increase of 1.09% since October 2024. The capital comprises 58 general and 12 Scheduled Caste (SC) constituencies.

As the Delhi Assembly elections approach, the BJP’s delay in announcing its CM candidate has become a focal point of AAP’s campaign strategy. Whether Atishi’s prediction about Ramesh Bidhuri holds true remains to be seen, but the political battle in Delhi is heating up, promising an intense electoral showdown
