In a deeply disturbing incident from Maharashtra’s Satara district, a female doctor has died by suicide, leaving behind a chilling suicide note written on her hand in which she accused two police officers of rape and harassment. The victim, who worked at a government hospital in Phaltan, was found hanging in a hotel room late on Thursday night.The deceased, a native of Beed district, wrote on her palm that she was taking the extreme step due to the actions of the two policemen.

According to the note, sub-inspector Gopal Badane had allegedly raped and sexually harassed her on multiple occasions over the last five months, while another officer, Prashant Bankar, had mentally harassed her. Police have registered a case and sent the body for a post-mortem examination. An official confirmed that a thorough investigation into the serious charges has been launched.The incident has triggered widespread outrage. The Maharashtra Women’s Commission has taken cognisance of the matter, with its chief, Rupali Chakankar, ordering Satara Police to take strict action against the accused.

“Those involved in this unfortunate incident will not be spared,” she asserted. The opposition has also slammed the state government over the case.State Congress leader Vijay Namdevrao Wadettiwar hit out at the ruling Mahayuti government, questioning how justice could be served “when the protector becomes the predator.”

He demanded the immediate dismissal of the accused officers, arguing that their presence could influence the investigation. “Why was her earlier complaint not taken seriously? Those who ignored it and those who shielded these police officers should face action. Until action is taken against the police, police atrocities will not be curbed,” he posted on X.
