Woman, Teen Daughter Killed After Speeding Car Rams Into Family in UP’s Gorakhpur
A speeding car ran over seven people sitting outside their home in Gorakhpur late Friday night, killing a woman and her teenage daughter and injuring five others.
The incident occurred around 11:30 pm in the Gorakhnath area of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, when a high-speed vehicle lost control and ploughed into a group of people sitting outside their residence. Police confirmed that 44-year-old Jannatun Nisha and her 16-year-old daughter Zheena died instantly.
The injured — Maryam Khan (18), Rabia Khatoon (23), Nihal (5), Zubair (17), and Subrati (16) — were rushed to BRD Medical College by local authorities. Doctors declared Nisha and Zheena dead on arrival, while the other victims are undergoing treatment and remain in critical condition.
Eyewitnesses said four people were inside the car at the time of the crash. “One of the occupants has been detained while three others managed to flee,” said a senior police officer.
An FIR has been registered, and authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the absconding suspects. “Efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused,” added the officer.
The local community is reeling from the tragedy. Neighbours described the family as humble and well-liked in the area. “They were sitting outside for some fresh air after the evening prayers. In a moment, everything changed,” said an eyewitness.
Locals have demanded swift action and stricter traffic monitoring in residential lanes. The city has witnessed a rise in similar reckless driving cases in recent months.
Police said a thorough investigation will be conducted and all responsible will be brought to justice. Gorakhpur SSP Dr. Gaurav Grover stated, “We are taking this case very seriously. The accused will not be spared.”
