Nagpur Violence: Police Form 18 Special Teams to Track Down Culprits
Nagpur Police have launched a manhunt with 18 special teams to apprehend suspects involved in the recent communal violence in the city, officials announced on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
Following the outbreak of violence in Nagpur, the police have mobilized 18 dedicated teams to identify and arrest those responsible. The unrest, which erupted on March 17, left several injured and disrupted the city’s peace.
Nagpur Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal stated that the special teams include personnel from Ganeshpeth, Kotwali, and Tehsil police stations, along with the Crime Branch. The coordinated effort aims to ensure swift action against the perpetrators.
The clashes began after protests by right-wing groups demanding the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Tensions escalated due to rumours of a community’s holy book being desecrated, leading to widespread unrest.

Over 2,000 police personnel remain deployed across sensitive areas of Nagpur to maintain law and order. A curfew is still in place in several parts of the city as a precautionary measure to prevent further violence.
Dr. Singal told reporters on Wednesday, “The special teams are working round the clock to track down and arrest those involved in the violence.” He assured that the police are committed to restoring normalcy in the city.
Authorities are expected to review the curfew situation later today, with possible relaxations if the situation stabilizes. The investigation continues, and more arrests are anticipated as the special teams intensify their efforts.
