Delhi is abuzz with controversy as the police blocked the screening of Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) documentary ‘Unbreakable’, citing the lack of required permissions. The documentary, focusing on the AAP leaders who were in the jail including Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, has triggered a fresh round of allegations between AAP and BJP just weeks before the February 5 polls.

The Delhi Police stated that the screening would have violated election guidelines as no prior permission was obtained through the single-window system managed by the District Election Officer (DEO). Emphasizing that political activities during elections require mandatory permissions, the police clarified that they neither have the authority to approve nor deny such events, urging all parties to follow regulations.

AAP has countered the police’s statement, accusing the BJP of influencing the decision. According to AAP sources, theatre owners across Delhi were “threatened” against screening the documentary. AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal took to X (formerly Twitter) to allege that the BJP is “scared” of the film, which he claims reveals the truth behind the “wrongful arrests” of AAP leaders and the alleged unconstitutional actions of the BJP-led central government.

The timing of the controversy has heightened political tensions in Delhi, which heads to polls on February 5, with votes to be counted on February 8. The ruling AAP’s announcement of the documentary’s release was seen as a strategic move to highlight their struggles against what they call “political persecution.” However, the ban has added another dimension to the ongoing rivalry between AAP and BJP.

The ban has drawn mixed reactions. Supporters of AAP see it as an attack on freedom of expression, while BJP loyalists argue that rules must be followed, especially during the sensitive election period. The incident underscores the charged political atmosphere in Delhi, where every move seems to add to the narrative shaping the upcoming elections.

The clash over ‘Unbreakable’ highlights the ongoing tussle between AAP and BJP as Delhi prepares for its elections. As both sides present their narratives, the focus remains on whether the electorate views this as a governance issue or political theater. One thing is certain: the controversy has brought ‘Unbreakable’ and its message into the limelight.
