The Bihar Cabinet is gearing up for a major expansion today, just days before the state’s Budget Session begins on Friday. Sources say five new BJP MLAs are expected to join Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s team, with the final decision resting with the CM on whether JD(U) members will also be added.

The news broke after Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal announced his resignation as Revenue Minister. Speaking to ANI, Jaiswal said, “I’m stepping down from my ministerial role. The party follows a ‘one person, one post’ rule, and I’m grateful to lead the state unit.” He plans to meet Nitish Kumar soon to submit his resignation, signaling the start of this shake-up.

Currently, the Bihar Cabinet has 30 ministers—15 from BJP, 13 from JD(U), one from Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), and an Independent. With a maximum limit of 36, six slots are still open. Sources hint that besides the five BJP MLAs, two JD(U) members might be inducted, possibly including leaders from the Rajput and Bhumihar communities.

This expansion follows a meeting between Nitish Kumar and Union Minister JP Nadda, after earlier talks stalled. Bihar’s BJP in-charge Vinod Tawde is heading to Delhi today to get the central leadership’s nod on the new minister list. Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary has already arrived at the CM’s residence, showing the pace of these developments.

Many BJP ministers currently juggle multiple roles. Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha oversees three departments, while Mangal Pandey and Nitish Mishra handle two each. The new additions could ease this load and bring fresh faces to the team.

With Assembly elections looming later this year, this Cabinet expansion is a key move for the NDA coalition in Bihar. It aims to strengthen the government ahead of the Budget Session and set the stage for the polls. Political watchers are keeping a close eye on how this reshuffle will shape Bihar’s future.
