Bihar Election: NDA Finalises Seat-Sharing Pact, BJP And JD(U) To Contest 101 Seats Each
National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar on Sunday finalized its seat-sharing formula for the upcoming 2025 Assembly elections, putting an end to weeks of speculation. In a significant arrangement for the 243-member assembly, the two major partners, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal (United), will contest on an equal footing, with each party fielding candidates in 101 seats. The final deal was announced after a series of high-level meetings in Patna and New Delhi.
BJP’s election in-charge for Bihar, Dharmendra Pradhan, confirmed the pact, stating, “We, the partners of the NDA, have completed the seat distribution in a cordial atmosphere.”Under the agreement, Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has secured a substantial share of 29 seats, recognizing his party’s influence. The other allies, Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), will contest six seats each. The consensus was reached after hectic negotiations over the past few days.
Senior BJP leaders, including Dharmendra Pradhan and Bihar in-charge Vinod Tawde, held separate and joint meetings with the allies in Patna to iron out the details, while another senior leader, Nityanand Rai, met with Chirag Paswan in Delhi. The final formula reflects the BJP’s strategy of maintaining a balanced coalition to take on the opposition in the high-stakes election.
