Budget 2025: Budget Is For The People, Of The People, Says Nirmala Sitharaman

The Union Budget 2025, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, is being hailed as a “people’s budget.” Drawing inspiration from Abraham Lincoln’s famous words, Sitharaman described it as “by the people, for the people, of the people,” Sitharaman said in an interview with PTI reflecting its focus on addressing the aspirations of India’s hardworking taxpayers.

In one of the most significant announcements of the year, Sitharaman revealed that individuals earning up to ₹12 lakh annually will no longer have to pay income tax. This decision, aimed at providing relief to the middle class, has been lauded as a step towards empowering honest taxpayers who have long voiced concerns about unmet aspirations.

Additionally, revamped tax slabs under the new regime ensure broader benefits for taxpayers, making the tax system simpler and more inclusive.

Sitharaman acknowledged the pivotal role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in championing the idea of tax cuts. She shared that while Modi was fully behind the initiative, convincing bureaucrats to align with this vision took time.

This decision reflects the government’s commitment to fostering economic inclusivity and addressing the concerns of middle-income groups, especially during challenging times.

Sitharaman admitted that capital expenditure slowed down during the 2024 election year. However, the Budget 2025 aims to refocus on infrastructure development, innovation, and job creation, ensuring a sustainable economic trajectory.

Responding to criticisms from the opposition regarding allocation disparities in Bihar and Delhi, Sitharaman dismissed these claims as unfounded. She emphasized that every state has received its fair share of grants, urging critics to thoroughly examine the budget details before making accusations.

Budget 2025 stands out as a progressive, people-oriented financial plan. By providing significant tax relief and addressing economic growth, the government aims to create a balanced and inclusive roadmap for the nation’s future.
