Congress Gets a New Headquarters at 'Indira Bhawan', Sonia Gandhi Inaugurates

The Congress party marked a historic moment on Wednesday with the inauguration of its new headquarters, Indira Bhawan, located at 9A, Kotla Road, New Delhi. The event, attended by Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge, and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, signals a significant step forward for the grand old party.

For nearly five decades, the Congress operated from its iconic premises at 24 Akbar Road. The move to Indira Bhawan represents a fresh start for the party, which has faced significant challenges since its loss of power in 2014. Sonia Gandhi inaugurated the building by cutting a ceremonial ribbon after the national anthem. This was followed by a lamp-lighting ceremony alongside Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, marking the occasion with traditional reverence.

Built on the Foundation of Legacy

Congress leader KC Venugopal, in his welcome address, shared the journey of Indira Bhawan’s construction. He revealed that the project began under Sonia Gandhi’s leadership as party president, and thanked L&T, the construction company responsible for the building. Venugopal emphasized the symbolic importance of the new office as a foundation for a brighter future for the party and the nation.

Rahul Gandhi’s Vision for the New Headquarters

Rahul Gandhi, addressing the gathering, described Indira Bhawan as more than just a building—it symbolizes the roots and essence of the country. In his speech, Gandhi took the opportunity to criticize RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, calling his recent remarks on the Constitution and independence “treasonous.” He defended the legacy of India’s freedom movement, urging the country to reject divisive narratives.

The Congress party sees the new headquarters as a beacon of hope. Leaders like Sachin Pilot expressed optimism, calling it “a new beginning” and wishing for positive changes for both the party and the country. With the Lok Sabha elections on the horizon, the party aims to rebuild its standing and reclaim its legacy.
