In a shocking incident, the body of 22-year-old Congress worker Himani Narwal was discovered stuffed inside a suitcase near the Sampla bus stand in Haryana’s Rohtak district on Saturday, March 1, 2025. The young woman, who had been an active participant in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, was allegedly murdered, leaving the local community and political leaders in disbelief. This gruesome discovery has sparked widespread outrage and raised serious questions about safety and law enforcement in the state.

Himani Narwal was no ordinary party worker. She was a dedicated supporter of the Congress party, often seen campaigning alongside prominent leaders like Rahul Gandhi, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda. Her involvement in the Bharat Jodo Yatra and election campaigns made her a recognizable figure in Haryana’s political circles. Just a day before her death, she had posted a video on social media attending a wedding, showing no signs of the tragedy that would soon unfold.

The police found her body after commuters spotted an abandoned suitcase near the Sampla flyover and alerted authorities. Preliminary investigations suggest she may have been strangled, with visible injury marks on her neck. The Rohtak police have launched a probe, checking CCTV footage and call records to uncover clues about her killer. The case has been registered under murder charges, but no suspects have been identified yet.

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda called the murder “barbaric” and a “blot on the state’s law and order.” He demanded a high-level, impartial investigation, urging the government to punish the culprits harshly. “Such incidents against women must be met with strong action to deter criminals,” Hooda said, highlighting the need for justice in this heartbreaking case.

Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra echoed Hooda’s sentiments, calling for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to take over the case. “Himani was a hardworking party worker. This is a tragic loss, and we need answers,” Batra said, offering condolences to her family. The incident has fueled criticism of the state’s BJP government, with Congress leaders claiming that law and order has “collapsed” in Haryana.

As the investigation continues, the murder of Himani Narwal remains a stark reminder of the challenges women face and the urgent need for improved safety measures in the region. The public and political leaders alike await justice for the young Congress worker whose life was cut short in such a horrific way.
