In a major political development, Rekha Gupta was sworn in as Delhi’s Chief Minister today, unveiling her new cabinet and assigning key portfolios to kick off the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) return to power after 27 years. Taking over from Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Atishi, Gupta announced a seven-member team, including big names like Parvesh Verma and Kapil Mishra, during a grand ceremony at Ramlila Maidan.   3. Manjinder Singh Sirsa (Rajouri Garden) – Food & Supplies, Forest & Environment, Industries.
  4. Ravindra Kumar Indraj (Bawana) – Social Welfare, SC & ST Welfare, Cooperative, Elections.
  5. Kapil Mishra (Karawal Nagar) – Law & Justice, Labour Department, Employment Department, Development, Art & Culture, Language Department, Tourism Department.
  6. Ashish Sood (Janakpuri) – Home, Power, Urban Development, Education, Higher Education, Training & Technical Education.

The BJP’s landslide victory securing 48 of 70 seats ended AAP’s decade-long rule, and today’s cabinet announcement sets the tone for their agenda. Gupta’s decision to keep Finance and Revenue suggests a focus on economic control, while Verma’s PWD assignment hints at infrastructure upgrades. Kapil Mishra’s multi-department role, including Tourism and Labour, could boost jobs and culture, while Ashish Sood’s Education and Power combo tackles two of Delhi’s biggest pain points.

In her X post, Gupta thanked supporters, writing, “Your support is my inspiration, and I will remain dedicated to the development of Delhi and public service with full devotion.” With PM Narendra Modi and top BJP brass at the swearing-in, the party flexed its muscle after nearly three decades out of power. Gupta, the fourth woman to lead Delhi, is now the only active woman CM in a BJP-ruled state—a milestone not lost on her team.
