Delhi Weather Update : Dense Fog & Cold Wave In Delhi Trains & Flights Delayed
Severe cold weather and dense fog enveloped New Delhi today, disrupting transportation and daily life. Over 25 trains and more than 100 flights were delayed or canceled due to poor visibility. Here’s everything you need to know about how the fog impacted Delhi and nearby regions.
Train Delays Across Major Routes
The dense fog resulted in significant train delays, leaving passengers stranded at railway stations across the city. Key services like the Poorva Express, Farakka Express, and Karnataka Express were affected, among others.
Additional trains that faced delays included:
- Swaraj Express
- KCVL ASR SF Express
- UP SMPRK Kranti Express
- Tamil Nadu SF Express
- AP Express
- Telangana Express
The cold wave has exacerbated travel challenges, with rail schedules remaining uncertain throughout the day.

Flight Operations Affected at Delhi Airport
The fog also created chaos at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), with 117 flights delayed and ten canceled. Of these, 76 flights experienced an average delay of 20 minutes.
Delhi Airport issued an advisory urging passengers to check with airlines for updates. Flights that are not CAT III compliant—systems designed to enable landing in low visibility—were most affected.
Zero Visibility Across Northern India
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported zero visibility at several airports, including:
- Delhi’s Palam Airport
- Punjab’s Amritsar Airport
- Lucknow and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh
- Agra in Uttar Pradesh
This widespread fog disrupted air and rail travel across northern India.
IMD Issues Orange Warning
The IMD has issued an orange warning for Delhi, signaling dense to very dense fog in many areas. With temperatures dropping and visibility remaining low, residents are advised to take necessary precautions while traveling.
