Delta Plane Crash at Toronto Pearson: 18 Injured, Including Child, as Aircraft Flips During Landing
In a dramatic turn of events, a Delta Air Lines plane flipped over while landing at Toronto Pearson Airport on Monday afternoon, resulting in 18 injuries, including a child. The incident involved Delta Flight 4819, which was arriving from Minneapolis with 80 people on board, comprising 76 passengers and 4 crew members.
The plane, identified as a Mitsubishi CRJ-900LR, ended up on its roof amidst challenging weather conditions. Videos and images from the scene show the aircraft covered in snow, with emergency crews attempting to manage the situation. The crash occurred around 3:30 pm local time, with no fatalities reported.
Among the injured, three individuals were in critical condition: a man in his 60s, a woman in her 40s, and a child. The air ambulance service, Ornge, transported the pediatric patient to SickKids hospital in Toronto, while the adults received treatment at other local medical facilities.
The crash took place under severe weather conditions, with blowing snow and winds gusting up to 65 km/h. John Cox, an expert in aviation safety, noted that although the CRJ-900 is known for handling inclement weather well, this incident is highly unusual. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has taken charge of the investigation, with assistance from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board due to the American airline’s involvement.

Delta Air Lines has confirmed that their primary focus is on the care of those affected, while Ontario Premier Doug Ford expressed relief that there were no casualties and stated that provincial support would be available if needed. Endeavor Air, which operates the flight as a Delta subsidiary, is known for its extensive regional jet operations.
