Dream11 Pulls Out as Team India Sponsor Ahead of Asia Cup After Online Gaming Ban: Reports

In a major setback just days before the Asia Cup 2025, fantasy gaming giant Dream11 has reportedly decided to withdraw as the lead jersey sponsor for the Indian cricket team. The stunning development follows the recent passage of ‘The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill’ by the Indian Parliament, which imposes a ban on online fantasy sports and gambling platforms.

According to reports, Dream11 is “not willing to continue its deal” with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in light of the new legislation. This abrupt exit puts the BCCI in a difficult position, as it may need to invite new bids for the coveted sponsorship rights on short notice. There is a possibility that Team India could enter the high-profile tournament without a lead sponsor if a replacement is not secured in time.

Dream11 had signed a lucrative three-year deal worth ₹358 crore in July 2023 to become the team’s lead sponsor. Responding to the situation, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia affirmed that the board would comply with the law of the land. “If it’s not permissible, we’ll not do anything. The BCCI will follow every policy of the country that is framed by the central government,” he stated.

The timing of the withdrawal presents a logistical challenge, as team jerseys featuring the Dream11 logo have reportedly already been printed for the tournament. An official announcement from the BCCI regarding the sponsorship status is still awaited.

Meanwhile, India recently announced its 17-member squad for the Asia Cup, with Suryakumar Yadav set to lead the side. The team, which includes notable players like Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah, will enter the tournament as one of the favorites despite the sponsorship turmoil.
