A video showing Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a heated argument with a woman IPS officer has gone viral, sparking a significant controversy . In the clip, Pawar is heard berating Sub-Divisional Police Officer Anjana Krishna after she apparently failed to recognize his voice over the phone during a crackdown on illegal soil excavation in Solapur district . The incident occurred when Krishna was investigating the illegal digging of ‘murrum,’ a type of red soil used in construction, in Kurdu village .

The confrontation unfolded after local villagers and officials clashed during the inspection . An NCP worker, Baba Jagtap, then called Pawar and handed the phone to Officer Krishna . When Krishna expressed she couldn’t confirm she was speaking to the deputy chief minister, Pawar reportedly became furious. “How dare you? I will take action against you,” he is heard saying before switching to a video call to confront her directly, demanding she halt the action against the illegal excavation .

The NCP has defended Pawar’s actions, with state party president Sunil Tatkare claiming the video was deliberately leaked and that Pawar’s stern words were meant to “pacify party workers” rather than completely stop the legal action .

Tatkare insisted that Pawar does not support illegal activities . However, the incident has drawn sharp criticism, with opponents accusing Pawar of misusing his power and threatening an officer for performing her duty . Officer Krishna and other officials involved have not commented on the matter, stating it is under inquiry
