Prayagraj, February 26, 2025 – The grand Maha Kumbh 2025 came to a spectacular close today with the final ‘Amrit Snan’ on Maha Shivratri at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. This 45-day event, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, saw an astounding 65.02 crore devotees take a holy dip, making it a historic occasion after 144 years.

The last bathing ritual began early this morning, with 25.64 lakh people taking the dip by 4 am. Drone footage captured a breathtaking sea of devotees gathered at the Sangam—the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers—to mark the end of this spiritual celebration. Maha Shivratri, a day dedicated to Lord Shiva’s divine union with Goddess Parvati, added extra significance to the final dip, symbolizing triumph over darkness and spiritual renewal.

The Maha Kumbh kicked off on January 13 with the Paush Purnima Snan, followed by key bathing dates like Makar Sankranti (January 14), Mauni Amavasya (January 29), Basant Panchami (February 3), and Maghi Purnima (February 12). Today’s Shivratri Snan concluded the series, drawing massive crowds, including members of prominent Akharas like Juna, Niranjani, and Ahwan.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally oversaw arrangements from Gorakhnath Temple’s control room, ensuring a smooth experience for devotees. “May Lord Shiva and Mother Ganga bless all with well-being,” he shared on X, welcoming saints, sages, and pilgrims to this sacred event.

To manage the influx, police deployed extra forces and senior officials at key points, while the administration coordinated with railways and airports for seamless travel. SSP Rajesh Dwivedi noted the enthusiasm of locals and visitors alike, with many also flocking to Shiva temples within the Kumbh area.

After a tragic stampede on January 29 claimed over 30 lives, authorities ramped up safety measures. Enhanced crowd control, sanitation, medical facilities, and emergency systems ensured a safer experience for all.
