Maharashtra on High Alert: IMD Issues Orange Warning for Mumbai, Pune, Thane Amid Heavy Rainfall

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several key cities in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Pune, and Thane, predicting continued heavy rainfall. This comes as Mumbai grapples with an incessant downpour that has led to significant waterlogging in several parts of the city, disrupting daily life and causing inconvenience to residents.

The IMD has forecast a cloudy sky with light to moderate showers for the city and its suburbs on Saturday, with temperatures expected to hover between 26°C and 30°C. The orange alert extends beyond the Mumbai Metropolitan Region to include Raigad, Jalna, Satara, and Aurangabad, signaling a high-level preparedness warning for local authorities.

Additionally, a yellow alert has been put in place for Nagpur, Nashik, Charapur, and Latur. According to weather officials, the persistent wet conditions are due to a cyclonic circulation active over Vidarbha and its adjoining areas at mid and upper atmospheric levels.

The forecast suggests that Marathwada and North Madhya Maharashtra will likely experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, while most areas in the Konkan-Goa belt and South Madhya Maharashtra are also set to receive similar rainfall. Strong winds, gusting from 45 to 55 kmph and occasionally reaching up to 65 kmph, are also expected to sweep across the region.
