‘No One Will Be Spared’: Maharashtra CM Fadnavis On Satara Doctor’s Suicide

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday broke his silence on the tragic suicide of a young doctor in Satara, vowing that “no one will be spared” and that the government has taken swift and decisive action. Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, Fadnavis called it an “extremely saddening” matter that a young doctor was driven to end her life after detailing her pain.”It is a very serious matter that a young doctor expressed her pain in this manner before ending her life. It is extremely saddening for all of us,” the Chief Minister stated.

His remarks came as harrowing details emerged from a four-page suicide note left by the victim. In the letter, she not only accused Police Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane of raping her four times and subjecting her to months of abuse but also made a bombshell allegation against a Member of Parliament (MP) for indirectly threatening her after she refused to issue a false medical certificate. A chilling note on her palm read, “Badne raped me four times.”

Fadnavis confirmed that the government acted immediately upon learning of the case. “The government immediately suspended the concerned police officials yesterday, and arrests have also begun,” he said, adding that he had spoken to the Satara Superintendent of Police (SP) to order the suspension of the accused officer.

One of the accused, a techie named for mental harassment, has been arrested, while a manhunt is underway for the absconding sub-inspector. Both have been booked for rape and abetment of suicide. While assuring strict action, the Chief Minister also urged political parties not to exploit the tragedy. “I believe the opposition should not politicise this sensitive issue,” he stated. The doctor, who worked at the Phaltan sub-district hospital, was found dead in a hotel room on Thursday. She was just one month away from completing her mandatory rural service bond, after which she had planned to pursue her postgraduate medical studies.
