PM Modi Special Gesture Welcomes Qatar Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Than at Delhi Airport

In an act of diplomatic warmth, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally welcomed the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, at Delhi Airport on Monday evening. The gesture symbolizes the strong bond between India and Qatar, with both leaders seen exchanging cordial hugs and engaging in friendly conversation. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar was also present to greet the distinguished guest.

This visit marks the second state visit by Sheikh Tamim to India, the first being in March 2015. The Amir’s two-day visit, at the invitation of PM Modi, is anticipated to further cement the multifaceted partnership between the two nations. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the visit is expected to provide “further momentum to our growing multifaceted partnership.”

The schedule for the visit is packed with significant engagements. On Tuesday, the Amir will be officially welcomed at Rashtrapati Bhavan, followed by bilateral talks with PM Modi at the Hyderabad House, focusing on various dimensions of India-Qatar relations. These discussions are aimed at enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, energy, technology, culture, and people-to-people connections.

Post-arrival, EAM Jaishankar will meet with the Amir on Monday evening. The day after, after the ceremonial welcome, the leaders will sign several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in the afternoon, signaling new areas of collaboration. The Amir will also have an audience with President Droupadi Murmu.

India and Qatar share a history of friendship, trust, and mutual respect, which has only grown stronger over the years. The Indian community in Qatar, which constitutes the largest expatriate group there, plays a crucial role in the nation’s development, acknowledged by the MEA for their positive contributions.

This visit is not just about diplomatic protocols but about forging stronger ties that benefit both nations economically, culturally, and socially. With trade, energy, and investment being key areas of focus, this visit could herald a new era of cooperation.
