Pune Woman Raped and Robbed & Forced To get Intimate With Cousin
A horrifying crime has rocked Maharashtra’s Pune district, where a 19-year-old woman was allegedly raped and robbed at knifepoint while with her cousin. The incident, reported on Monday, occurred on Saturday night in Shirur tehsil, a rural area east of Pune city. Police arrested the two suspects within hours, bringing swift justice to a case that has left the community in shock.
According to Senior Inspector Mahadev Waghmode of Ranjangaon police station, the woman and her cousin were sitting in a secluded spot when two men in their mid-to-late 20s approached on a motorbike. Armed with a knife, the attackers forced the cousins into an obscene act, filming it on their phone. “They then took turns raping the woman and stole her gold nose ring and pendant before fleeing,” Waghmode told PTI.
Despite the trauma, the woman bravely dialed 112, India’s emergency helpline, to report the assault. “Our crime team responded immediately, registered the case, and launched a manhunt based on her descriptions,” Waghmode said. Using local tip-offs, police nabbed the suspects within hours and recovered the stolen jewelry. The accused are now in custody until March 7, facing charges of rape, robbery, and coercion.

This chilling incident follows another recent assault in Pune—a woman raped on a parked MSRTC bus at Swargate depot on February 25. That suspect, arrested after a three-day chase involving drones and sniffer dogs, remains in custody until March 12. The back-to-back crimes have sparked outrage and raised questions about safety in the region.
The 19-year-old victim, originally from Madhya Pradesh, was visiting relatives in Shirur when the attack occurred. Police say the swift arrests show their commitment to tackling crime, but residents are demanding more patrols in isolated areas. The case has also drawn attention online, with posts on X calling it a “horrific ordeal” and urging stricter measures.
As Pune grapples with these incidents, authorities are under pressure to ensure justice and prevent further violence. The investigation continues, with police promising a thorough probe to uncover any additional motives or accomplices.
