Pune Woman Raped In Posh Society; Assailant Posing As Courier Boy Leaves Chilling Message: ‘I’ll Be Back’
A 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped inside her apartment in a posh society in Pune’s Kondhwa area on Wednesday evening by an unidentified man posing as a courier delivery boy. The assailant, after the assault, brazenly took a selfie on the victim’s mobile phone and left a chilling message, “I’ll be back,” police officials confirmed on Thursday.
The shocking incident took place at approximately 7:30 pm. According to the police, the accused gained entry by insisting the woman sign for a courier. When she opened the safety door of her flat, the man allegedly sprayed an unknown substance on her face, causing her to lose consciousness, and then sexually assaulted her.
Pune Police have launched a massive manhunt to nab the accused. Ten separate teams have been formed to investigate the case, and authorities are meticulously scanning CCTV footage from the housing society and surrounding areas to identify the perpetrator. A senior police official stated that they are analysing the selfie found on the woman’s phone as a crucial piece of evidence.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the city, raising serious concerns about the safety of residents, particularly women, in upscale residential complexes.
This is the second major case of sexual assault reported in Pune this week. In a separate and unrelated incident on Monday, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted by two motorcycle-borne men on the Pune-Solapur highway in the Daund area.
The minor was travelling in a car with her family when their driver pulled over for a tea break at around 4:15 am. According to a police official, two men armed with sharp weapons approached the stationary vehicle, robbed the female occupants of their gold jewellery, and then forcibly took the minor girl from the car and sexually assaulted her.
Pune Rural Police are investigating the highway assault and have released a sketch of one of the suspects. Ten teams have also been formed in this case, and a search operation is underway across several districts.
Police have registered cases under relevant sections of the law in both incidents and have assured that all efforts are being made to bring the culprits to justice swiftly.
