Satara Doctor Suicide: Landlord’s Son Arrested for Harassment, Cop Accused of Rape Absconding
Police have arrested one of the two men named in the suicide note of a 28-year-old woman doctor in Maharashtra’s Satara. The accused, Prashant Bankar, who is the son of the doctor’s landlord, was taken into custody on Friday and charged with abetment to suicide. The main accused, Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Gopal Badane, who the doctor accused of rape, remains on the run.Dr. Sampada Munde was found dead in a hotel room on Thursday night, having left a note on her palm detailing her ordeal. She accused PSI Badane of raping her multiple times over five months and named Bankar for subjecting her to mental harassment.
According to police, Bankar, who had close ties with the accused officer, allegedly threatened Dr. Munde several times to vacate her rented room and acted in connivance with Badane. Both men have been charged with rape and abetment to suicide.
The case has been further complicated by explosive allegations from the victim’s family, who claim she was under intense political and police pressure to create false post-mortem reports. “There was a lot of police and political pressure on her to prepare a wrong mortem report. She tried to complain about it. She should get justice,” a family member stated.
Her cousin elaborated on this, telling ANI that she had written to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) to complain about the pressure but received no help.Following Bankar’s arrest, he was sent for a medical examination. Authorities have confirmed that a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the absconding PSI Badane as the investigation into the doctor’s death and the serious allegations made by her family continues.
