‘Very Dirty Mind…’ Supreme Court Slams Ranveer Allahbadia for Vulgar Remarks
In an unprecedented move, the Supreme Court of India unleashed a sharp rebuke against popular YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia over his vulgar comments made during an episode of Samay Raina’s ‘India’s Got Latent’. The court, while hearing a case related to the FIRs filed against Allahbadia, described his remarks as stemming from a “very dirty” and “perverted mind.”
A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh expressed their strong disapproval, stating that such behavior should be universally condemned. “Just because you are popular, you cannot take society for granted,” Justice Kant emphasized. The court was particularly harsh, questioning the morality of the language used by Allahbadia, suggesting that it would bring shame to families and society at large.
Despite the harsh words, the Supreme Court did offer some legal protection to Allahbadia, ensuring he would not be arrested in relation to the ongoing cases. However, the court also imposed a significant restriction by prohibiting Allahbadia from participating in or airing any new YouTube shows. This decision underscores the judiciary’s stance on balancing free speech with societal responsibility.

The controversy erupted after Allahbadia made certain distasteful comments on the show, leading to multiple FIRs across different states. His attempt to club these FIRs was part of the reason he approached the Supreme Court. The comments on the show, which have since been deleted, were seen as crossing the line of decency and public morality, prompting widespread public and legal backlash.
The remarks not only drew legal scrutiny but also sparked a conversation about the limits of comedy and freedom of expression in India. Critics argue that while humor is subjective, it should not veer into vulgarity or disrespect. The case has become a focal point for discussions on content regulation in digital media, especially for influencers with large followings.
This ruling might set a precedent for how content creators are held accountable in India. It’s a reminder that with great reach comes great responsibility. As the digital space grows, so does the need for content that respects cultural sensitivities and societal norms.
