‘Who Is Lalu Prasad Trying to Save?’: Amit Shah Slams Opposition in Bihar Over Voter List Row

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday launched a fierce attack on the opposition in Bihar, questioning RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s motives and accusing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of playing “vote bank politics” over the ongoing controversy surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Speaking at a public gathering in Sitamarhi, Shah alleged that the opposition parties are raising objections to the voter list cleanup because they have already accepted defeat in the upcoming state assembly elections and are now looking for excuses.
In a sharp dig, Shah linked the opposition’s stance to the issue of illegal immigration, asking, “Who does Lalu Prasad Yadav want to save? Do you want to save those Bangladeshis who come from outside and snatch jobs of the people of Bihar?” He asserted that the SIR process would ensure that the names of all infiltrators are removed from the voters’ list.
Dismissing the controversy as manufactured, Shah pointed out that the revision process is not new. “Rahul Gandhi should stop this vote bank politics… SIR is not happening for the first time. It was started by Jawaharlal Nehru and it happened in 2003 as well,” he said.
Shah also used the platform to hit out at the Congress and RJD for their opposition to ‘Operation Sindoor’ in Parliament. “Lalu and company do not know that this is the government of Narendra Modi, the NDA government. No one has the right to mess with the security of the nation,” he declared.
The Home Minister’s fiery political speech was delivered after he laid the foundation stone for the grand redevelopment of the Janki Mandir at Punauradham, considered the birthplace of Goddess Sita. The project, valued at over Rs 882.87 crore, was inaugurated in the presence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other dignitaries. During the event, Shah also performed a ‘bhoomi pujan’ and virtually flagged off the new Sitamarhi-Delhi Amrit Bharat Express train.
