In a candid interaction with students at IIT Madras, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi elaborated on the fundamental differences between the Congress and BJP ideologies. Addressing economic, social, and international policies, Gandhi outlined his vision for a more inclusive India while critiquing the BJP’s approach to governance.
Rahul Gandhi emphasized that the Congress party believes in equitable distribution of resources and inclusive growth. Contrasting this, he described the BJP’s economic approach as “triple-down growth,” focusing on aggressive wealth concentration. “We feel a more harmonious society, where resources are fairly distributed, is better for the country,” he stated.
Highlighting Congress’s social philosophy, Gandhi asserted that societal harmony fosters national development. He stressed the importance of investing in public education, arguing against excessive privatization. “The best institutions in India, like IITs, are government-run. Privatization and financial incentives don’t guarantee quality education,” he said, advocating for increased government spending in education.
He critiqued the current education system as narrow, restrictive, and top-down. “Our system undervalues many professions, focusing only on engineers, doctors, and bureaucrats. Success should not be limited to these fields,” Gandhi said, urging for a system that allows students to explore their passions and innovate.
While acknowledging some similarities between Congress and BJP in foreign policy, Gandhi pointed out differences in their approach to international relations, without delving into specifics.

Reflecting on his Bharat Jodo Yatra, Gandhi shared insights from conversations with children about their dreams. He noted that the education system often limits aspirations to a few professions, neglecting a vast majority. “Real innovation comes from fostering creativity and respecting diverse skills,” he remarked.
Rahul Gandhi emphasized empowering children through skill development and physical production. “Innovation thrives when we respect skills and invest in them,” he concluded, advocating for a transformative shift in India’s education and economic policies
