The alliance between Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress, a key pillar of the INDIA bloc, appears to be facing turbulence. Tejashwi Yadav, RJD leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, recently stirred political conversations with his remark suggesting that the INDIA alliance was limited to the Lok Sabha elections, sparking speculation about cracks in the partnership.

Addressing the media, Tejashwi Yadav stated that the INDIA alliance was formed with the primary goal of defeating the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. “It is not unnatural for conflicts to arise between Congress and AAP,” Yadav said, referring to recent disagreements between the two parties in Delhi. However, he emphasized that RJD and Congress have maintained a consistent partnership in Bihar.

The discord deepened. RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tewari hinted that Congress should be prepared to contest all 243 assembly seats in Bihar independently. “Congress needs to understand its ground reality,” Tewari commented, recalling the party’s underwhelming performance in the previous assembly elections when it was allotted 70 seats.

Congress Legislature Party leader Shakil Ahmad Khan was quick to respond. “If anyone underestimates Congress, we will respond with equal measure,” he stated, indicating the party’s dissatisfaction with RJD’s comments.

JD(U) National Spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan added fuel to the fire. He suggested that the ongoing exchanges reveal cracks within the INDIA bloc. “These public comments show there is no unity. Separate campaigns will only make their struggle harder,” he remarked.

The recent tension comes shortly after RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav endorsed Mamata Banerjee for leadership of the INDIA bloc. Political analysts believe this could be a tactic by RJD to pressure Congress into accepting fewer seats during future negotiations. While the alliance’s immediate future remains uncertain, these developments suggest a challenging road ahead for the partnership.

It is too soon to declare the end of the RJD-Congress alliance in Bihar. However, recent comments from both sides indicate significant friction. The outcome of upcoming seat-sharing talks will be crucial in determining the future of their partnership
