Gautam Gambhir Receives Death Threat via Email From ISI Kashmir, Police Launch Probe

Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir has received a death threat via email, prompting a police investigation as authorities seek to trace the sender behind the chilling message.

In a disturbing development, former cricketer and current head coach of the Indian men’s national team, Gautam Gambhir, received a threatening email containing the words “I kill you.” The message has sparked a security review and swift action from the Delhi Police.

The threat, reportedly received late Tuesday, led Gambhir to file an official complaint. The cyber crime unit has begun tracing the origin of the email, with preliminary forensic analysis underway.

The threat arrived just days after Gambhir publicly condemned the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 dead. On X (formerly Twitter), he had posted:
“Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible for this will pay. India will strike.”

Authorities are probing any potential link between Gambhir’s vocal stance and the email threat.

According to senior police officials, the cyber cell has launched a detailed investigation. “We have registered a case and initiated technical analysis to trace the IP address and origin of the mail,” said a Delhi Police official.

Security around Gambhir’s Delhi residence has been increased, and officials are considering additional personal security measures based on threat perception.

Gambhir has previously received threats, including from international terror operatives. His unwavering stance on national security has made him a target before. Now head coach of Team India since July 2024, Gambhir recently led the side to a Champions Trophy win in March.

He has otherwise maintained a low public profile amid the ongoing IPL 2025 season, during which national coaches typically remain off active duty.

Police officials have assured swift action. “No threat to a national icon will be taken lightly,” said a senior Delhi Police official. The Ministry of Home Affairs is reportedly monitoring the situation closely.
