IPL 2025: 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi hits 35-ball century, breaks T20 world record
Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest male cricketer to score a T20 century and recorded the second-fastest hundred in IPL history during Rajasthan Royals’ win over Gujarat Titans.
In a night to remember at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi shattered records by scoring a breathtaking 35-ball century, leading Rajasthan Royals to a dominant seven-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans on Monday, April 28.
Vaibhav’s 101 off 38 balls not only helped Rajasthan successfully chase down a challenging target of 210 in just 15.5 overs but also saw him become the youngest male cricketer to score a century in T20 cricket, surpassing Vijay Hari Zol’s decade-old record.
Opening the innings, Vaibhav reached his fifty in just 17 balls before storming to a historic hundred, showcasing fearless intent against an experienced Gujarat bowling attack comprising Mohammed Siraj, Rashid Khan, and Prasidh Krishna.
The young left-hander hammered 11 sixes and 7 boundaries, treating the crowd to a sensational display of clean hitting. Vaibhav brought up his century in style, launching Rashid Khan over mid-wicket for a towering six.
“This was a special knock. Vaibhav’s composure and aggressive strokeplay at such a young age is remarkable,” Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson said after the match.
Vaibhav’s innings saw him achieve several milestones:
- Youngest male cricketer to score a T20 century (14 years old)
- Second-fastest century in IPL history (35 balls)
- Fastest TATA IPL century by an Indian player
In a particularly memorable over, Vaibhav plundered 30 runs off Afghanistan’s Karim Janat, smashing three sixes and three boundaries, sending the Jaipur crowd into a frenzy.
He eventually fell for 101, caught by Shubman Gill off Prasidh Krishna’s bowling, but not before stitching a record 166-run partnership — the highest opening stand in Rajasthan Royals’ IPL history.
As Vaibhav walked off the field, every Gujarat Titans player applauded the prodigy’s performance. Rajasthan Royals’ head coach Rahul Dravid, who is recovering from an injury and was seated in a wheelchair, stood up to offer a rare standing ovation.
“To witness a 14-year-old play like this on the big stage — it’s nothing short of phenomenal. Vaibhav has a bright future ahead,” Dravid said.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, hailing from Bihar, made waves in domestic cricket last season with his fearless batting and was bought by Rajasthan Royals for ₹1.1 crore during the 2025 auction. Monday’s knock came in just his third IPL match, instantly catapulting him into the national spotlight.
With Rajasthan Royals snapping their five-match losing streak and momentum firmly back on their side, all eyes will be on Vaibhav as IPL 2025 progresses. Rajasthan next faces Delhi Capitals in an away fixture later this week, where the teenage sensation will look to continue his dream run.
