IPL 2025 Set to Resume on May 16, Final Likely on June 1: BCCI Sources
The Indian Premier League 2025 is set to resume on May 16 after a brief suspension, with the final expected on May 30 or June 1, BCCI sources confirmed.
The high-profile tournament, which was postponed due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, will kick off with the match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. “We have informed all the stakeholders. Teams are calling back players and staff. Ekana is getting ready for the match, and LSG will assemble by May 13,” a senior BCCI source told India Today.
Matches will be held across four venues, with Hyderabad likely to host Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator. Kolkata is scheduled for Qualifier 2 and the final — unless inclement weather forces a shift to Ahmedabad.
The BCCI is closely monitoring weather patterns, especially in Kolkata. “If there is any threat of rain affecting the knockout stages, particularly the final, we may move it to Ahmedabad,” the source added. The reworked schedule is expected to be announced soon.
After the IPL was paused on May 9 due to security concerns, several foreign players left India. RCB, who play the first match post-resumption, confirmed that their overseas contingent—including Josh Hazlewood, Philip Salt, and Romario Shepherd—had returned home.
“Our players and extended staff have safely returned to Bengaluru and are now homebound,” RCB said. The franchise praised the BCCI and local authorities for their swift coordination during the suspension.
The IPL had been paused after an abandoned game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala due to air raid alerts following the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The May 9 suspension came amidst rising military escalation between India and Pakistan, prompting foreign players to fly home temporarily.
The Punjab vs Delhi match is expected to be declared a no-result, with both teams sharing one point.
BCCI is expected to release the revised match schedule within days. Fans can anticipate a packed calendar, leading up to a final likely on June 1. Key playoff matches, updated points table standings, and player cap races will be under heavy scrutiny as teams push for the title.
