DMK Youth Wing Leader’s Wife Alleges Sexual Abuse, Coercion of Women; NCW Seeks Urgent Probe
A 20-year-old woman has accused her husband, Deivaseyal, a former DMK Youth Wing deputy secretary in Arakkonam, of sexually and physically abusing her and coercing other young women into sleeping with political leaders. The allegations have triggered public outrage and led the National Commission for Women (NCW) to demand a thorough and independent investigation.
The woman filed a police complaint in Arakkonam alleging repeated abuse and coercion. She claimed her husband not only assaulted her but also boasted that no legal action could be taken against him due to his political ties. In her statement, she alleged he forced her and other women to engage in sexual acts with political leaders under threats of violence.
“His work is to threaten 20-year-old women and make them sleep with political leaders,” she stated in the complaint. “He threatened to cut me into pieces if I complained.”
The DMK Youth Wing responded by removing Deivaseyal from his party position. However, the woman alleged that police were slow to act and had yet to register an FIR 48 hours after her complaint. She also posted a video online expressing distress and accusing police of revealing her identity, further compounding her trauma.
“I’m not being treated like a woman,” she said in the video. “Police are coming to take pictures but not filing any case. My face was revealed on social media, and I feel like ending my life.”
In response, the NCW took suo motu cognisance of the complaint and issued a formal statement urging the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) to ensure an “immediate, impartial and transparent investigation.”
“Constitute an independent investigation team, prevent political interference, and ensure the survivor’s safety,” the NCW Chairperson wrote. The commission also requested a detailed action-taken report and a copy of the FIR within three days.
The incident drew sharp criticism from the opposition AIADMK. Party General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami called for mass protests if action was not taken swiftly.
“Will the DMK government take action against office bearers who attempt to sexually assault women, or will AIADMK have to launch a protest?” he said.
AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyam linked the case to past incidents, including one at Anna University.
“This shows a pattern of exploitation by DMK office bearers. The police are being used as tools by the ruling party. We demand justice,” he said.
