‘100% Communist Lunatic’ Trump After Zohran Mamdani After New York Mayoral Primary Win
US President Donald Trump today launched a furious attack on Zohran Mamdani, the 33-year-old Democratic socialist who secured victory in New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary election, leading former New York governor Andrew Cuomo to concede. Mamdani’s win, with 43.5 percent of the vote after 90 percent of ballots were counted, has drawn sharp condemnation from Trump, who took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to unleash a series of scathing posts.
A day after the results were announced, Trump lambasted Mamdani as a “100% Communist Lunatic” and mocked his victory. He extended his criticism to other prominent progressive leaders who support Mamdani, including Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) and Senator Chuck Schumer. In one post, Trump wrote, “It’s finally happened, the Democrats have crossed the line. Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor… He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart, he’s got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him. Yes, this is a big moment in the History of our Country!”
Trump continued his tirade in a subsequent post, mocking the Democratic Party’s overall performance and further ridiculing progressive politicians. He suggested, “I have an idea for the Democrats to bring them back into ‘play.’ After years of being left out in the cold, including suffering one of the Greatest Losses in History, the 2024 Presidential Election, the Democrats should nominate Low IQ Candidate, Jasmine Crockett, for President, and AOC+3 should be, respectively, Vice President, and three High Level Members of the Cabinet – Added together with our future Communist Mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, and our Country is really SCREWED!”
Since 2021, Zohran Mamdani has represented Astoria, Queens, in the New York State Assembly. His primary victory is seen by many as a clear indicator of the growing popularity of progressive ideas within New York City. His campaign platform includes ambitious proposals such as establishing city-run grocery stores, freezing rent increases in rent-stabilized housing, and providing free city buses. These initiatives, if implemented, would be funded by a substantial $10 billion tax increase on businesses and wealthy residents.
Mamdani has also been notably outspoken on foreign policy, taking a strong pro-Palestinian stance that has drawn considerable criticism from pro-Israel groups. He has controversially stated that if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were to visit New York City, he would advocate for his arrest, citing the arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court in November 2024. Furthermore, Mamdani has actively led chants supporting the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement during pro-Palestinian protests. Despite the criticism, his supporters view him as a bold and essential progressive voice for New York.
