Ceasefire to End 15-Month Gaza War Delayed Amid Netanyahu’s Demand for Hostage List
The planned ceasefire intended to conclude the 15-month conflict in Gaza has been postponed. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that the ceasefire will not commence until Hamas provides a comprehensive list of hostages slated for release.
Hamas was expected to release the names of three Israeli hostages as part of the initial phase of the ceasefire agreement. However, citing “technical field reasons,” Hamas has delayed submitting the list. In response, Netanyahu has instructed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to continue military operations in Gaza until the list is received.

The ceasefire deal, brokered with the assistance of international mediators, aims to end hostilities that have resulted in significant casualties and humanitarian concerns. The first phase of the agreement includes the release of 33 Israeli hostages, encompassing women, children, and individuals over 50, in exchange for approximately 1,900 Palestinian prisoners detained by Israel.
Despite the delay, both parties have expressed commitment to the ceasefire. Hamas has reiterated its dedication to the agreement, while Netanyahu has labeled the truce as “temporary,” indicating that military actions may resume if necessary.
The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, urging both sides to adhere to the terms of the ceasefire to prevent further escalation and to facilitate humanitarian aid to affected regions.
