Donald Trump Picks Loyalist Sergio Gor as US Ambassador to India, Calls Him a ‘Great Friend’
US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he is appointing his White House personnel director, Sergio Gor, as the next American ambassador to India. In a significant diplomatic move, Gor will also serve as the Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs, placing a trusted loyalist in a crucial global post.
In a statement on his Truth Social platform, Trump praised Gor’s work in his administration. “I am pleased to announce that I am promoting Sergio Gor to be our next United States Ambassador to the Republic of India,” Trump wrote. “Sergio and his team have hired nearly 4,000 America First Patriots across every Department of our Federal Government in RECORD time — Our Departments and Agencies are over 95% filled!”
Gor’s ties to the Trump family run deep. He co-founded Winning Team Publishing with Donald Trump Jr. and has been instrumental in publishing two of the president’s books. His involvement extends to running one of the largest Super PACs supporting Trump’s political campaigns. Highlighting this close relationship, Trump added, “Sergio is a great friend, who has been at my side for many years. For the most populous region in the world, it is important that I have someone I can fully trust to deliver on my agenda and help us MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”
Expressing his gratitude, Gor took to X, stating, “Nothing has made me prouder than to serve the American people through the GREAT work of this Administration! It will be the honor of my life to represent the United States!” He thanked President Trump for his “incredible trust and confidence” in the appointment.
Gor has been a central figure in the Trump administration, overseeing the vetting of senior personnel, including the short-lived nomination of tech billionaire Jared Isaacman to lead NASA. He will succeed Eric Garcetti, who served from May 2023 to January 2025. Since Garcetti’s departure, the US Embassy in India has been led by interim Charge d’Affaires Jorgan K Andrews. Gor will remain in his current White House role until his nomination is confirmed by the Senate.
