‘Double Standards’: China Blasts US Over Trump's 100% Tariff, Says 'Not Afraid To Fight'

China has accused the United States of “double standards” and warned it is “not afraid to fight” after President Donald Trump announced a staggering new 100% tariff on all Chinese imports. The move, set to take effect on November 1, escalates the ongoing trade war to an unprecedented level and threatens to severely disrupt the global economy.

In a defiant response, China’s Ministry of Commerce criticised Washington’s tariff threat, stating, “Willful threats of high tariffs are not the right way to get along with China.” A spokesperson for the ministry declared, “Our position on the trade war is consistent. We do not want it, but we are not afraid of it.”

The dramatic escalation was triggered by what Trump called “extraordinarily aggressive” and “hostile” trade actions from Beijing. The US President accused China of planning to impose its own sweeping export controls on nearly all its products, particularly rare earth elements. In retaliation, the US will not only impose the 100% tariff but also new export controls on critical software.

The announcement has already triggered market volatility, with economists warning of major disruptions to global supply chains and rising prices for consumers. The new tariffs, which would push the total US tariff on many Chinese products to roughly 130%, are expected to have a severe impact on companies reliant on Chinese manufacturing inputs. The escalating tensions have also cast serious doubt over a planned meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the upcoming APEC summit, further dimming hopes for a diplomatic resolution.
