Elon Musk Claims Ukraine Behind ‘Massive Cyberattack’ on X Amid Global Outages

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has alleged that a “massive cyberattack” originating from Ukraine targeted his social media platform X, leading to widespread outages on Monday. The platform experienced repeated crashes, affecting thousands of users globally. Musk claimed the attack involved significant resources, hinting at possible state or group coordination.

X users reported issues starting early Monday, with posts failing to load and in-app services disrupted. The platform went offline several times, briefly recovering before crashing again. The scale of the disruption prompted Musk to address the situation publicly.

In an interview with Fox Business Channel, Musk said, “We’re not sure exactly what happened, but there was a massive cyberattack to try to bring down the X system with IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area.” He provided no further evidence to support the claim.

Earlier, Musk posted on X, “We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved. Tracing…” The statement suggested a sophisticated effort behind the attack.

Thousands of users worldwide faced difficulties accessing X throughout the day. Complaints ranged from inability to view posts to complete app and website outages. The disruptions marked one of the platform’s most significant service interruptions in recent times.

X has not released an official statement beyond Musk’s remarks, leaving the attack’s origins unconfirmed. Investigations are underway to trace the source, with potential updates expected on the platform’s recovery and security measures. The incident may fuel further debate on cybersecurity threats to social media platforms.
