Elon Musk Confirms India Visit This Year After Talks With PM Modi
Elon Musk confirmed plans to visit India later this year following a conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, fuelling anticipation around Tesla and Starlink’s India entry.
Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said he would visit India in 2025, shortly after a teleconference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. Musk called the interaction “an honour” and shared his excitement on social media platform X.
“It was an honor to speak with PM Modi. I am looking forward to visiting India later this year!” Musk wrote in a post that quickly went viral, further amplifying expectations around his ventures entering the Indian market.
PM Modi echoed the sentiment, stating, “Spoke to @elonmusk and talked about various issues, including the topics we covered during our meeting in Washington DC earlier this year. We discussed the immense potential for collaboration in the areas of technology and innovation.”
Musk’s visit is expected to coincide with key announcements about Tesla’s manufacturing plans and Starlink’s satellite internet rollout in India. Tesla has long explored opportunities in India but faced delays due to policy and infrastructure challenges.
Starlink, under Musk’s aerospace company SpaceX, has held discussions with Indian telecom players like Jio and Airtel, and is awaiting final government clearances. Recently, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal met Starlink executives to discuss investment and technology partnerships.
This is the second major interaction between Musk and Modi this year. The two previously met during Modi’s US visit in February, where Musk was accompanied by his three children. Their conversations reportedly covered innovation, clean energy, AI, and space collaboration.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, both sides are committed to “deepening cooperation between Indian and American companies in areas like technology, mobility, space exploration and sustainable development.”
Musk’s anticipated India visit is expected to align with official announcements around Tesla’s India launch. Analysts believe it may include site visits or MoU signings for Tesla’s Gigafactory or Starlink operations.
With US-India strategic and technological partnerships on the rise, industry experts say Musk’s visit could serve as a catalyst for greater innovation and investment in India’s emerging tech ecosystem.
