Elon Musk Launches ‘America Party’ To ‘Give Back Freedom’ After Public Fallout With Trump
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk on Saturday announced the formation of a new political party in the United States, named the ‘America Party’, in a dramatic move that follows his very public and bitter fallout with US President Donald Trump.
In a post on his social media platform X, Musk declared, “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.” He said the decision was based on the results of a poll he conducted on July 4, which he claimed showed a two-to-one desire among the public for a new political alternative to the Republican and Democratic parties.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” Musk added, criticising what he calls the American political “uniparty.”
The announcement is the latest and most significant salvo in Musk’s escalating war with the Trump administration. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO, who once held a special role in the White House leading a cost-cutting unit called the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), recently turned into a fierce critic of Trump’s massive new tax and spending package, the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which was signed into law on July 4. Musk has slammed the bill for potentially adding trillions to the national debt.
On US Independence Day, Musk posted a poll asking his millions of followers if they wanted “independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system!” After 65.4% of respondents voted “Yes,” Musk took it as a mandate to launch his new political venture.
Outlining his strategy, Musk posted another cryptic message referencing an ancient Greek battle. “The way we’re going to crack the uniparty system is by using a variant of how Epaminondas shattered the myth of Spartan invincibility at Leuctra: Extremely concentrated force at a precise location on the battlefield,” he wrote.
The move marks a new, unpredictable chapter in US politics, as one of the world’s richest and most influential figures steps directly into the political arena, challenging the established order just months after working within it.
