India Bombed Nur Khan Air Base: Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif Reveals Midnight Alert From Army Chief

Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif has confirmed that India bombed Nur Khan Air Base in Rawalpindi on May 10, receiving a 2:30 AM alert from Army Chief General Asim Munir.

In a startling revelation, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he was informed by General Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff, about Indian missile strikes on the strategically critical Nur Khan Air Base during the early hours of May 10.

Sharif said the alert came at 2:30 AM, shortly after the strikes commenced. “On the night of the 9th/10th, General Asim Munir called me at 2:30 AM to inform me that India had bombed several of our airbases,” he stated.

Nur Khan Air Base, located near Islamabad in Chaklala, Rawalpindi, serves as a crucial Pakistan Air Force hub, managing VIP air travel, military logistics, and strategic operations.

Sharif also detailed the events leading to a ceasefire agreement with India. In a televised statement, he recounted receiving a call from Gen Munir while he was swimming, notifying him of India’s request for a ceasefire following Pakistan’s military retaliation.

“It was morning time. I had my secure phone with me while swimming. The phone rang. General Munir said we have given India a powerful response, and now they are seeking a ceasefire,” Sharif said.

He praised Pakistan’s military for compelling India to seek a truce. “I told him that this is a matter of pride—that you responded with force and now they are forced to do a ceasefire.”

On May 10, India officially confirmed a ceasefire agreement through communication between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMO) of both nations. India, however, stressed it would continue to respond strongly to any violations and emphasized that future dialogues would focus on counter-terrorism measures.

The missile strike on Nur Khan Air Base followed the fallout of Operation Sindoor, a cross-border Indian counter-terrorism offensive launched after a deadly attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians. Tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations have surged, with diplomatic backchannels and military hotlines working overtime to avoid escalation.

Nur Khan Air Base, often referred to as Chaklala Airbase, holds particular importance for Pakistan’s defense operations and is frequently used by senior military and government officials.
