‘India, Pakistan Agree to Full Ceasefire After US Mediation’ : Donald Trump Big Announcement Amid India-Pak Tensions
In a dramatic diplomatic breakthrough, India and Pakistan have agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire, US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday following days of escalating tensions.
President Donald Trump confirmed that India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire agreement after “a long night of talks mediated by the United States.” He posted on Truth Social: “India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence.”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio shared the announcement and elaborated on Washington’s role in facilitating the truce. “Over the past 48 hours, VP Vance and I engaged with senior Indian and Pakistani officials… I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site,” Rubio posted on X.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also confirmed the development, stating, “Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
The ceasefire comes days after heightened military action. On May 7, India carried out precision strikes on terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. In retaliation, Pakistani forces launched strikes on Indian Air Force installations, prompting fears of a broader conflict.
Following the escalation, several global powers, including the US and UN, urged both countries to exercise restraint. Trump’s announcement marks the first major public step toward de-escalation. The United Nations and European Union welcomed the ceasefire and called for “sustained dialogue” between the nuclear-armed neighbours.
According to Rubio, both countries have agreed to initiate talks “on a broad set of issues at a neutral site.” While the venue and timeline remain undisclosed, diplomatic observers view this as a significant opening for renewed peace negotiations.
