Indian-Origin Motel Manager Beheaded In Texas; Co-worker Held For Murder
In a horrifying incident in Texas, a 50-year-old Indian-origin motel manager was beheaded with a machete by a co-worker following a trivial dispute over a broken washing machine. The brutal attack on Chandra Mouli “Bob” Nagamallaiah took place on Wednesday morning in front of his wife and son, who reportedly tried in vain to save him. The suspect, identified as Cobos-Martinez, has been arrested and charged with capital murder.
According to the Dallas Police Department, the dispute began when Nagamallaiah, originally from Karnataka, told Cobos-Martinez and a female colleague not to use a washing machine that was out of order. He reportedly asked the female colleague to translate his instructions, which seems to have infuriated Cobos-Martinez. The situation escalated rapidly, with the suspect chasing the manager.
CCTV footage captured the terrifying sequence of events, showing Cobos-Martinez retrieving a machete and launching the attack. A terrified Nagamallaiah ran screaming towards his motel office, where his wife and son were present. They attempted to intervene multiple times, but the assailant continued his relentless assault. Cobos-Martinez, who has a prior criminal history including auto theft and assault, reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation. He is now being held without bond and could face life imprisonment or the death penalty if convicted.
The shocking murder has left the local community, particularly the Indian-American population, in deep trauma. Nagamallaiah, known affectionately as Bob, was remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, and a kind soul. “This unimaginable tragedy was not only sudden but deeply traumatic,” friends said in a statement. “Bob’s life was taken in a brutal attack that occurred in front of his wife and son, who bravely tried to protect him. The shocking nature of this event has shaken our community.” Friends and community members are now rallying to support his grieving family.
