Joe Biden Diagnosed With Aggressive Prostate Cancer; Trump, Obama Extend Support

Former US President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with a high-grade, aggressive form of prostate cancer, his office confirmed on Sunday. The diagnosis followed a recent medical evaluation triggered by persistent urinary symptoms and the discovery of a prostate nodule.

According to the official statement, Biden’s cancer has metastasized to the bone and carries a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5), indicating one of the most severe forms of the disease. However, officials added that the cancer is hormone-sensitive, which offers a viable path for treatment.

“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” the statement said.

In a rare moment of bipartisan unity, several top political leaders offered their support. US President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social: “Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis… We wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”

Former Vice President Kamala Harris echoed similar sentiments, saying, “Doug and I are keeping him, Dr. Biden, and their entire family in our hearts and prayers during this time. Joe is a fighter.”

Former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also weighed in. Obama praised Biden’s past efforts to combat cancer and added, “We pray for a fast and full recovery.” Clinton acknowledged the Bidens’ contributions to cancer awareness and research, posting, “Wishing you a speedy, full recovery.”

Biden’s health has been a topic of concern throughout his presidency, amplified after a faltering debate performance against Trump in mid-2024. At 82, Biden is the oldest sitting president in U.S. history and has previously faced scrutiny over his physical stamina and cognitive fitness.

The diagnosis comes as a personal and symbolic blow to Biden, who has championed cancer research throughout his career. His son, Beau Biden, died of brain cancer in 2015, a tragedy that led to the launch of the Cancer Moonshot initiative under the Obama administration.
