Netanyahu Offers ‘Private Advice’ To PM Modi On Handling Trump Amid Escalating US-India Tariff War

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has waded into the escalating trade tensions between the United States and India, stating he would offer some “private advice” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on how to deal with US President Donald Trump. Characterizing both leaders as his “terrific friends,” Netanyahu made the remarks while urging the two nations to find a resolution to their dispute.
“PM Modi and Trump are terrific friends of mine. I would give PM Modi some advice on dealing with Trump, but privately,” the Israeli leader told the media, adding that he hopes to visit India “soon.” While carefully avoiding taking sides, Netanyahu described the foundation of the US-India relationship as “very solid” and stressed the importance of resolving the tariff issue.
“It will be in the interest of India and the US to arrive at a common ground and resolve the tariff issue. Such a resolution will be good for Israel as well, as both countries are our friends,” he said.
The comments come at a time of a severe diplomatic and economic strain between Washington and New Delhi. Earlier this week, President Trump imposed an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods as a penalty for its continued purchase of Russian oil, doubling the total levy to a staggering 50%. India has fiercely condemned the move as “unfair, unjustified and unreasonable.”
Prime Minister Modi has responded with a defiant stance, declaring that India would never compromise on the interests of its farmers and fishermen, even if it meant paying a heavy price. “The interest of farmers is our top priority… And I know that I will have to pay a huge price for this personally, but I am ready,” Modi stated, underscoring his government’s resolve in the face of mounting American pressure.
