PM Modi at G7: “No Place for Double Standards on Terrorism” Amid Global Tensions

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the G7 Outreach Session in Kananaskis on Tuesday, issued a stern warning against double standards in countering terrorism—remarking that countries which support terror often go unpunished while the rest face sanctions. He declared terrorism an “enemy of humanity” and highlighted last month’s Pahalgam attack in Jammu & Kashmir as a brutal assault on human dignity.

Modi underscored that global peace depends on clear, consistent policies: if a nation is found backing terror, it must “pay the price.” He contrasted this with selective sanctions, citing examples where perpetrators escape accountability.

He also voiced concern for the Global South—pointing out that conflicts make these nations the first victims of crises in food, fuel, finance, and fertilizers. He emphasised India’s role in bringing their voices to the table.

Modi called for urgent global mechanisms to combat misinformation, especially emerging threats from deepfake content generated by artificial intelligence. He recommended watermarking and transparency standards for AI-created media.

His speech covered global security and sustainable development themes. He reiterated India’s commitment to green energy through multilateral initiatives like the International Solar Alliance, and its aim to foster tech-driven cooperation.

Modi’s message struck a chord at a summit focused on major geopolitical flashpoints—including Israel‑Iran tensions, the Ukraine war, and transnational repression. His remarks echoed broader G7 calls to curb terror financing and political violence.

He is expected to pursue bilateral meetings later today with G7 leaders, aiming to build consensus on collective security, climate action, and digital governance.
