Russian Missile Hits Indian Pharma Firm’s Warehouse in Kyiv, Ukraine Alleges
Ukrainian authorities have accused Russia of deliberately targeting foreign businesses after a missile hit the warehouse of Kusum, an Indian pharmaceutical company, in Kyiv. The incident was revealed by British Ambassador to Ukraine, Martin Harris, who shared images of the damaged facility on social media.
The Ukrainian Embassy in India also reposted the images, stating that Moscow had attacked the site while “claiming special friendship” with India. The embassy accused Russia of “destroying medicines meant for children and the elderly”.
British Ambassador Harris wrote, “A Russian missile hit the warehouse of Kusum, an Indian pharmaceutical company. Medicines were destroyed. This is what Russia’s war brings to Ukraine.”
While casualties were not reported at the time of publication, the damage to the facility is seen as a significant blow to foreign business operations in the region, particularly those dealing in humanitarian goods like medicine.
The strike comes as former US President Donald Trump continues to pressure Russia to agree to a ceasefire. On Friday, Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff concluded talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump has publicly criticised the war, calling it “senseless” and demanding urgent resolution.
“Russia has to get moving,” Trump posted on Truth Social, adding that the conflict “should have never happened.”
Kusum is among several Indian pharmaceutical firms operating in Ukraine, supplying critical medicines to hospitals and pharmacies. The company has not yet issued a public statement on the extent of the damage or operational disruptions.
Since the Russian invasion in February 2022, numerous civilian and commercial infrastructures in Ukraine have been targeted, with both sides trading blame amid calls for accountability.
The Ukrainian government has called on the international community, including India, to condemn the latest attack. Meanwhile, diplomatic observers say the targeting of a foreign-owned business could further complicate global reactions to the ongoing war.
India has yet to issue an official statement regarding the reported missile strike.
