Trump Declares ‘Total Ceasefire’ Between Israel & Iran, Tehran Denies Deal

At a Truth Social post on June 23, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a “complete and total ceasefire” between Israel and Iran, marking an end to a “12-Day War.” He asserted that Iran will halt hostilities first, followed by Israel 12 hours later, leading to a full ceasefire within 24 hours .
However, Tehran has outright rejected the claim. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on X that “no final ceasefire agreement” has been made, warning Israel must first halt its “illegal aggression.” He stated that a final decision rests on whether Israeli strikes cease .
Trump hailed the agreement as historic, telling NBC News it was intended to “last forever” . He credited Qatar for mediating the proposal and described his diplomatic efforts, including calls with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and Iranian counterparts, as key to brokering the deal .
Markets responded favorably—oil prices dropped over 3%, U.S. stock futures rose, and the dollar softened as fears of war-induced disruptions eased .
But on the ground, the situation remains tense. Iranian military sources have not observed any Israeli strikes “pause”; air raid alarms sounded again in Tehran and Golan Heights, suggesting continued instability .
In Doha, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani confirmed to Reuters that he obtained Iranian consent to the ceasefire proposal during talks with Trump . Yet, until Israel halts operations, Tehran maintains it will not formally cease actions .
