Trump Issues Ultimatum: Putin Has 10-12 Days for Ukraine Peace Deal or Face Sanctions

US President Donald Trump announced a drastically reduced deadline of 10 to 12 days for Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree to a peace deal in Ukraine, or face heightened sanctions . This move, made on Monday, July 28, comes as a significant cut from the 50-day ultimatum Trump had initially set on July 14 . Speaking alongside British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland, Trump expressed profound disappointment with Putin’s handling of the ongoing conflict, stating his frustration over the lack of progress toward a ceasefire .
Trump’s decision stems from his growing dissatisfaction with Putin, whom he accused of prolonging the war despite earlier discussions aimed at peace. “I’m disappointed in President Putin. I’m going to reduce that 50 days that I gave him to a lesser number because I think I already know the answer what’s going to happen,” Trump stated . He further indicated that he was no longer interested in engaging in direct talks with Putin on the current situation .
The US President reiterated his threat of imposing “very severe secondary tariffs” against Russia, hinting that an official announcement could come as early as Monday night or Tuesday . These tariffs, previously warned to be at 100%, would target Russia’s trading partners if a peace deal is not reached within the new timeframe .
Trump, who returned to the White House in January, had campaigned on a promise to swiftly end the conflict in Ukraine . However, his increasing disenchantment with Putin, whom he said “talked so beautifully, then he’ll bomb people at night,” has led to this shift in approach . The President also confirmed that the US would send Patriot missile systems and batteries to NATO to support Ukraine in its defense against Russia
