Trump Says He Will Work With India, Pakistan For Kashmir Solution After Ceasefire Deal

US President Donald Trump on Sunday offered to help India and Pakistan find a lasting resolution to the Kashmir issue, a day after brokering a surprise ceasefire deal between the two nations

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he looks forward to working with both countries to resolve the Kashmir issue, which he described as persisting for a “thousand years.”

“I will work with you both to see if, after a ‘thousand years,’ a solution can be arrived at concerning Kashmir,” Trump wrote, praising the leaders of India and Pakistan for agreeing to halt hostilities.

Trump said he was proud of the “strong and unwaveringly powerful leadership” shown by both sides and claimed that the ceasefire had averted potential mass casualties.

“Millions of good and innocent people could have died!” he warned, highlighting the significance of the US-brokered deal.

Calling the ceasefire a “historic and heroic decision,” Trump said the agreement marked a turning point in the region.

“Your legacy is greatly enhanced by your brave actions. I am proud that the USA was able to help you arrive at this decision,” he said.

The former US President also pledged to “substantially increase trade” with both India and Pakistan, saying that peace could usher in prosperity across South Asia.

On Saturday, Trump announced that both nations had agreed to a “full and immediate ceasefire” following four days of cross-border drone strikes and shelling.

The announcement was first made on Trump’s social media platform, followed by confirmation from India’s foreign secretary Vikram Misri.

The Kashmir region, claimed by both India and Pakistan, has long been a flashpoint for conflict. The most recent escalation followed a terror attack in Pahalgam that New Delhi blamed on Pakistan-backed elements.

While Pakistan framed the ceasefire as a result of its military stance, India clarified that the truce was requested by Islamabad and facilitated through backchannel diplomacy, with the US playing a key role.

No official response has yet been issued by India’s Ministry of External Affairs regarding Trump’s proposal.
