Trump Says 'Israel Has Agreed To 60-Day Ceasefire Plan With Gaza' Urges Hamas to Act

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced that Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, following a productive session with his representatives and Israeli leaders. He urged Hamas to accept what he called the “final proposal,” warning: “it will only get worse” if rejected  .

Trump said mediators from Qatar and Egypt will present the ceasefire terms to Hamas. He added that if the deal is accepted, efforts will begin immediately to “end the war” during the pause.

The ceasefire offer reportedly includes the release of half the hostages in Gaza in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and remains. Israeli officials confirmed they have agreed to the plan, with the next phase dependent on Hamas’s response  .

Trump emphasised that he will personally press Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the matter ahead of Netanyahu’s upcoming visit to the White House next week  . He expressed hope for a resolution by then, noting Netanyahu “wants to” finalise a deal.

This announcement comes as the war in Gaza has claimed more than 56,000 lives in Palestinian territory and left hundreds of thousands displaced, sparking global humanitarian concerns. Despite previous temporary truces, each ceasefire effort has fallen apart amid persistent fighting.

While international mediators have made multiple proposals, this is the most concrete ceasefire framework to date, with Hamas indicating willingness to free hostages contingent upon a complete Israeli withdrawal, a demand so far unmet by Netanyahu’s government.

A 60-day ceasefire could provide crucial humanitarian relief, create space for negotiations on permanent peace, and pave the way for hostage exchanges. However, deep mistrust and rigid demands from both sides remain key barriers to finalising any deal.
