Zelenskyy Supports US-Ukraine-Russia Trilateral Proposal After Productive Alaska Talks with Trump

Following the high-profile summit in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed on Saturday that he held a “long and substantive conversation” with Trump, expressing his support for a trilateral meeting involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. Zelenskyy described the talks as a crucial step toward addressing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and emphasized the importance of dialogue at the highest level.

Zelenskyy explained that the discussion began as a one-on-one exchange with Trump before European leaders joined the call. The conversation lasted over 90 minutes, with approximately an hour dedicated to bilateral talks with the US President.

In a statement posted on X, Zelenskyy said, “We support President Trump’s proposal for a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the USA, and Russia. Ukraine emphasizes that key issues can be discussed at the level of leaders, and a trilateral format is suitable for this.”

He further underscored Ukraine’s commitment to achieving peace, noting that Trump briefed him on his meeting with Putin and the key points discussed. Zelenskyy acknowledged the critical role of “America’s strength” in shaping the conflict’s trajectory and ensuring security guarantees. He also stressed the importance of involving European partners at every stage to secure a sustainable peace framework.

The Ukrainian leader announced his upcoming visit to the United States on Monday, where he plans to meet Trump in Washington, D.C., “to discuss all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war,” expressing gratitude for the invitation. Zelenskyy highlighted ongoing coordination with international partners and welcomed positive signals from the US regarding security commitments.

The Alaska summit marked the first face-to-face meeting between Trump and Putin in years, aimed at advancing peace efforts in Ukraine. After nearly three hours of discussions, both parties described the meeting as productive but declined to provide specific details or address the press. Trump indicated progress on “many points” with only a few unresolved issues remaining.

While no immediate ceasefire or pause in hostilities was agreed upon, Putin extended an invitation for a follow-up meeting in Moscow, which Trump acknowledged as a possibility. The US President later indicated that the onus now rests with Zelenskyy to build on the discussions and produce tangible results.

The talks come amid a complex geopolitical landscape, with Ukraine continuing to resist any territorial concessions and emphasizing its sovereign right to participate fully in peace negotiations. The trilateral proposal, backed by Zelenskyy, signals a willingness to engage at the highest diplomatic levels while affirming Ukraine’s central role in shaping its own future.
